Back in the 90’s, as kids we had to find our own way to entertain ourselves. It could be playing hide and seek, building a clubhouse, or just digging a hole. I kid you not, I spent a good part of the summer just digging a hole with the idea that my friends and I would have tunnels to each of our homes. That ended when my dad filled it up.

It was nineteen ninety-something and I was in the fourth grade. I was doing the all-important stare at the clock, willing the bell to ring so I could go to recess. Every minute felt like an hour. As I was impatiently waiting, I noticed my teacher passing out the results of our spelling test. Of course, like most weeks I got a D. See, I was never a good speller. Catching a football yes, spelling no. After I saw my grade, I looked up at the clock.

There was a day back in elementary school that I got in trouble. Hard to imagine, I know. Well, this was not one of those troubles that included a call to my parents or a trip to the Principal's Office. No, this was a trouble that was waiting for me after school. Now I can't remember why my schoolmate was upset at me, but he made sure that he got his older brothers to come after me as well.
